Topic: The Deity and Divinity of Jesus Christ. (Is Jesus God in Human Form?)

Text:  John 8:58.                 (Adult Lesson 23)

Memory Verse: John 8:58.

Introduction: Jesus is the 2nd Personality of the Trinity or Godhead. While on earth, Jesus was 100% God and 100% Man. Jesus is God (Not Just a Good Man) because he possesses the exclusive characteristics of God, as Follows:



Characteristics of God.

Characteristics of Jesus.


God Alone is to be Worshipped.

I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them . . .” Exodus 22:2-5.

You shall have no other gods before me”. Deuteronomy 5:7.

Jesus Accepted Worship.

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11.

Disciples Worship Jesus.

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.” Matthew 14:33

Angels worshipped Jesus. “And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him” .

Hebrews 1:6.

The 4 Living Creatures and 24 Elders Worship Jesus.

And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.”.

 Revelation 5:8.



God is Omnipresent.

 “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good”.

Proverbs 15:3.  

Jesus is Omnipresent.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them”.

 Matthew 18:20.


God is Holy or without Sin.“ . . . Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy

 Leviticus 11:44

Jesus was without Sin.

 “ Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth” 1 Peter 2:22. Further Reading.  John 19:4; 14:30.


God is Omniscient(All Wise).

Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite”.

Psalm 147:5.

Jesus Knows All Things.

 “Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?”

 Luke 5:22


God does not Change.

For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed”.

Malachi 3:6.

Jesus does not Change.  

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever”. Hebrews 13:8.


God is Merciful.

The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin …” 

Exodus 34:6-7.

Jesus is Merciful.

Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd”.

Matthew 9:36





God is Omnipotent(All Powerful).

For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded, and it stood firm”.

 Psalm 33:9.

Jesus is All Powerful.

 “All Power is given to me in Heaven and on Earth”.

 Matthew 28:18.


God uses the Title: “I AM”.

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

Exodus 3:14.

Jesus uses the title: “I AM”.

 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which be As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way”.

John 18:5-8.


God forgives Sins.

“ . . . Who can forgive Sins but God Only” Mark 2:7

Jesus forgave Sins.

“  . . . Son, thy Sins be forgiven thee”. Mark 2:5.

But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins . . . “Matthew 9:6.


God is First and Last.

 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the Lord, the first, and with the last; I am he.” Isiah 41:4.

Jesus is First and Last.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”

Revelation 22:13.



God is The Shepherd.

“The Lord is My Shepherd”. Psalm 23:1.

Jesus is The Shepherd.

And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away”.

1 Peter 5:4.


God is Everlasting.

 “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them”. Deuteronomy 33:27.

Jesus is Everlasting.

 “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am”.

John 8:58.
