TEXT:  Ecclesiastes 12:13; Deuteronomy 6:2.         (Youth Lesson  Lesson 16)

MEMORY VERSE:   "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs 9:10, (New International Version)

Definition of Fear of The Lord: The Fear of God is respecting, obeying, submitting our selves to his Word –the Bible ;  having a hatred for evil or wickedness and worshipping him. You cannot serve God or keep his commandments, if his Fear is Not in You.

Blessings and Benefits of The Fear of God.

1). It brings Answers to Prayers.

He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them”.    Psalm 145:19.

2). It brings Long Life.

The fear of the LORD adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short”(NIV). Proverbs 10:27, Deuteronomy 6:2

3). It brings down God’s Mercy.

But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children”. Psalm 103: 17.

4). It Provides Wisdom and Knowledge.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever”. Psalm 111:10.

When you live your life according to the Bible, you avoid certain problems. For Example, You will not join others to Steal and Land in Prison, You will avoid telling Lies and get punished when caught, You will avoid cheating in Exam and getting expelled from School, and so on and so forth.

5). It provides Protection for You and your  loved ones.

The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil” Proverbs  19:23.

6). It provides Riches with Peace of Mind.

The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it”.                                                  Proverbs 10:22.

7). It makes God to open the book of Remembrance for You.

Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, And the Lord listened and heard them; So a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the Lord And who [a]meditate on His name”. Malachi 3: 16.

When God opens a book of remembrance for you, a long standing problem in your life will be solved. For Example,  Rachel the wife of Jacob was barren for many years. And the Bible said: “Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.” Genesis 30:22. Rachel then became pregnant and gave birth to Joseph and his brother, Benjamin.

8). The Fear of God will do for You what the Fear of Man cannot do for You.

“  . . . If God be for us, who can be against us”. Romans 8:31.”

The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked came against meTo eat[
a] up my flesh,
My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell”. Psalm 27”1-2.

The Fear of God means that you obey God First and Foremost above Any Person. This does not mean that you should be rude or disrespectful to your Parents, Teachers and Seniors. For Example:

The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, 16 “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.” 17 The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live”.(NIV) Exodus 1:15-17.

9)  The Fear of God brings about Good Governance/Good Government.

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan or sigh”. NKJV Proverbs 29:2.

10). The Fear of God Renews your Strength.

The Fear of God renews your spiritual strength, especially; when you spend time in his presence.

This means when you fear God and spend time in Prayers and studying God’s Word (the Bible), God’s power and presence is increased in your Life and you have increased answers to prayers.

  “But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,They shall walk and not faint”.
  NKJV  Isiah 40:31

Conclusion. Let us pray that God will teach us to Fear Him.

“Teach me Thy Way Oh God, I will walk in thy Truth: Unite My Heart to Fear Thy Name (Join My Heart to Yours)”. (KJV). Psalm 86:11.

“Remember Now Thy Creator in the days of thy Youth . . .” Ecclesiastes 12:1
